A Box of Memories

This short AV sequence was made for a workshop led by Bologna-based artist Sonia Lenzi for the Independent Photographers of the South East. It is my response to a challenge to make and present a short work on “Family”.

My mother, now aged 95, recently moved to a residential home where she can receive 24 hour care. Whilst clearing her previous home my siblings and I came across a box of photo albums, together with some old reels of Standard 8 cine film. Using material from these, I try to imagine how my mother might remember moments from her own life and family.

Post-script: a few months after making this video, on 2nd August 2020, my mother passed peacefully away.
